Eligibility

Should the PhD I hold be from one of the EuroTech universities?

No, the PhD can be from any institution that is entitled to award it.

I will have my PhD defended after the application deadline, but before starting the postdoctoral position. Am I eligible for a EuroTechPostdoc2 fellowship?

We will evaluate the eligibility at the moment of the deadline of the call. At this moment, you need to either have your PhD or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. So, whether you would be eligible depends on your research experience, measured in years of full-time equivalent research experience.

Does the MSCA mobility rule also hold for the country of the Co-host Institution?

No, the mobility rule only holds for the country of the Host Institution.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I had to cancel my travel plans due to which I do not fulfil the mobility rule anymore. Are there any exceptions possible?

Exceptions to the mobility rule related to Covid-19 can be considered, based on a case-by-case analysis. Contact the Programme Management Office to discuss your case.

How do you decide about the eligibility criterion of 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience?

To show you have four years of full-time equivalent research experience, you need to fill in a table mentioning all research experience starting from the date you received your University degree giving access to the PhD until the deadline of the call. Use the template provided. You need to be able to provide proof of the claims made in this table, using official documentation in English.

Research topics

Are there any limitations on what research topics can be submitted?

No, there are no pre-defined research topics within the EuroTechPostdoc2 programme. The only restriction is that the research topic of your proposal should fit within the research done at (at least two of) the EuroTech universities. This means that you should have a Host Supervisor and a Co-host Supervisor from two different EuroTech universities that want to collaborate in this project. Besides that, there are no limitations.

Should the research fit the Focus Areas of the EuroTech Universities Alliance?

The call is open to all research areas within the Alliance enabling the exploration of emerging and promising fields and promoting new interdisciplinary research collaborations. Fellows may freely choose a research topic and the appropriate organisations to host them, fitting their individual needs and ambitions. The Focus Areas f the EuroTech Universities Alliance are only given as examples.

Host / Co-Host

What should the collaboration between the Host and Co-host Institutions look like?

The proposed project should be a collaborative project with both the Host Institution and the Co-host Institution. The best way to collaborate can be decided between the fellow and the supervisors involved. However, secondments or several shorter research visits are strongly encouraged. The total maximum durations of the secondment is 6 months.

Can you help me finding a Host and/or Co-host Supervisor?

No, we cannot support you with finding a Host and/or Co-host Supervisor. EuroTechPostdoc2 is a bottom-up programme, and the match between you, your research plan and the intended supervisors is an important evaluation criterion in the selection process. This means you as a candidate should reach out to and find the most suitable Host and Co-host Supervisors for your project proposal.

Do I need to submit endorsement letter from my Host and Co-host Supervisors?

No, an endorsement letter is not needed. However, we strongly advise you to reach out to your intended Host and Co-host Supervisors as soon as possible for the following reasons:

  • The match between the proposed project and the Host and Co-host Supervisors is one of the evaluation criteria that we are using.
  • The match with the research group and infrastructure is also included in the evaluation criteria.

Discussing with your intended supervisors will thus strengthen your proposal.

  • During the viability check (step 6 of the review process), we check whether the infrastructure, supervision and resources needed to successfully complete the project are indeed available.

Make sure to discuss these items before submission, and make sure your supervisors also check this availability internally.

Does the MSCA mobility rule also hold for the country of the Co-host Institution?

No, the mobility rule only holds for the country of the Host Institution.

Is there a list available of potential Host and Co-host Supervisors?

Such a list is not available on the EuroTechPostdoc2 website. In principle all researchers employed at the Host Institutions can act as Host and Co-host Supervisor, and all researchers employed at the Co-host Institutions can act as Co-host Supervisor. Therefore, we refer you to the websites of the universities involved.
