Every year, over 100,000 people die of snakebites, and around three times as many suffer from amputations and other permanent disabilities following the bite of a snake. Agricultural workers and children are the most affected. Better treatments for venomous bites are urgently needed. At the science fair, Melisa and Aldona will help you turn your mobile phone into a microscope and use it to analyse snake samples to determine the snake that caused the bite and to identify a suitable antivenom.
